HOW MUCH SHOULD I SPEND ON

MY WEDDING DJ

How much is a good wedding DJ worth? This is quite a topic. I will share my opinion and experiences on the many issues around a proper wedding entertainment and how much you should spend...

WHAT DJ?

Your ideal DJ would be someone from your entourage, who is experienced in this type of long-form performance and who would offer their services as a wedding gift. Otherwise, there are several levels of providers available to you. For example, a DJ that you have heard mix and whose set you enjoyed. A club DJ who is motivated by a wedding party will come and mix for you and will charge between CHF 400 and 800 for the evening. Depending on the lighting atmosphere and the quality of the sound you want, you will have to pay between 300 and 1500 for the rental of the equipment, to which you will have to add the eventual costs of delivery / installation / dismantling.

The other option is the all-in-one, a professional wedding DJ, who will come with all the equipment. According to the information I have, the prices vary from 1000 to 3000 depending on the duration of the intervention, the equipment required and mostly, the popularity of the DJ.

More info: Popularity. If the modern world wants that supply and demand often determine the price of a service, this demand is distorted by the omnipresence of advertisements and (sometimes false) reviews on the web. Be cautious and question what you read, and most importantly: know what level of excellence you expect.

WHAT SERVICE

Your wish is to have a person who will turn up your wedding party? This is often the basic profession of event DJs, so good news!

Sometimes I see requests for someone who can mix, but will also act as a table major, plays the saxophone, sings and will DJ through the night. I'm not saying that your the prince charming does not exist, but pay attention to which part of the job really matters to you, because they are indeed three distinct professions.

I know hundreds of DJs personally, many of whom I have shared the decks with. Of these, few devote themselves to hosting weddings, and among those, none of them play an instrument live. Focussing on what you do best is essential in this profession.

If your budget allows it, I clearly advise to hire a musician who suits you, and the same for your DJ. If your budget is tight, your DJ can play the music you like at all key moments.

And he (she) already has many aspects to manage to make your party unforgettable:

  • Preparation

  • Ceremony, aperitif, dinner sound.

  • Rocking the party

  • Tidy up, drive home, sorting and control of equipment

  • Billing

  • Get ready for the next one, maintain a healthy lifestyle

Some points may seem trivial to you, but it's not without reason that I stopped drinking alcohol and that I don't eat meat: the constant changes in sleep patterns, the 16-hour work days, all this requires discipline if you want to last in this business.

The wedding party concludes an unbelievably important day, no DJ should ever underestimate this.
